Rex Ryan made an appearance on ESPN’s morning show “Get Up” on Friday and didn’t pull any punches when it came to Cowboys WR Amari Cooper. Ryan called Cooper “the biggest disappearing act in the National Football League” and said “I wouldn’t have paid this turd” as the show discussed Cooper’s 5-year, $100 million contract with the Cowboys.Ryan went on to say he thinks the Cowboys “made a huge mistake” in paying Amari Cooper this offseason.
NFL Twitter quickly caught wind of Ryan’s comments and players around the league, including Patriots cornerback and reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year Stephon Gilmore, lambasted Ryan for his foolish comments.
Cooper posted 79 catches to go along with a career-high in yards (1,189) and touchdowns (8) last season for the Cowboys. Cooper’s new contract with the Cowboys makes him currently the 2nd-highest paid wide receiver in the NFL.
