The New York Giants gave its fans a nice surprise on Christmas morning as they have reportedly signed safety Logan Ryan to a new three-year deal worth $31 million. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the deal will pay him $20 million guaranteed.
The Giants signed the two-time Super Bowl champion to a one-year contract worth $7.5 million back in August. After spending the first seven years of his career at corner back, he made the switch to safety this year.
Despite the position switch, Ryan has been all over the field for the Giants in 2020, playing in the slot and in box along with free safety. He leads all Giants safeties in snaps played this year with 900.
In 14 games with Big Blue, Ryan has totaled 83 tackles, one interception and nine pass breakups. He also has one sack and three forced fumbles on the year.
He was one of the leading vote receivers among fans for the Pro-Bowl at safety, getting over 77,000 votes, but ultimately did not make it.
The Giants were set to have three key players from its defense head to free-agency following 2020, those players being Ryan, defensive lineman Leonard Williams, and Dalvin Tomlinson. Now with Ryan back for the next three years, the focus could shift to bring Williams and Tomlinson back long-term.
