Patriots Waste A Career Best Performance From Mac Jones

I’m absolutely sick to my stomach. I genuinely can’t remember the last time I was this mad about a Patriots loss. I really can’t. I’m not talking about upset or sad, I mean genuinely ticked off.

The New England Patriots concluded the Thanksgiving holiday with a gut wrenching 33-26 defeat to the Minnesota Vikings. They lost a game that was truly winnable. The reality is, the Patriots beat themselves tonight. Beat themselves badly.

The Patriots offense, although still not perfect, had a great game. The best game throwing the football this season. Mac Jones had what was in my opinion, the best game of his young career.

He’s had his moments his first two years, but tonight I could see the vision. Tonight was the first time where I genuinely saw a franchise quarterback. I mean that. Mac Jones looked that good. He was making the throws a QB needs to make to win tight games.

He was slinging it all game long. You could tell from the very first drive Mac was locked in. He made great throw after great throw. So many highlight moments and throws. I was finally proud to call myself a Mac Jones supporter.

Jones finished the game 28 for 39 with 382 yards, a pair of touchdowns, and no turnovers. He played a nearly flawless game. It was the performance we’ve been needing to see out of him all season. He finally delivered.

Unfortunately, the team around him did it. I know I’m heated right now. I’m furiously typing this instant reaction blog out. I don’t care though, I’m going to say what I’ve been thinking for a while. Belichick ain’t Belichick anymore.

I’m over the “In Bill We Trust” moniker. He hasn’t earned it. This was the most un-Belichick game I’ve maybe ever seen. All my life as a Pats fan, I’ve never seen a team so dysfunctional, so unorganized.

Since when do you remember a Belichick team constantly make special teams mistake after special teams mistake? I’ll answer it for you: NEVER.

The kick return touchdown, the Pierre Strong running into the kicker, the bad punts galore. It’s embarrassing. These are the areas Belichick has always had buttoned up. Not anymore.

Yeah, I know what you’re gonna say. “The refs screwed us, you’re over reacting, give us a break.” Was it a poorly officiated game? Hell yeah, the refs sucked. That was 10000% a touchdown by Hunter Henry.

The initial ruling on the field was a touchdown, and there wasn’t enough evidence to overturn it. So why was it overturned? That was the highlight of a notoriously awful performance by the referees.

It doesn’t matter though. The refs played a role, but the truth is the Patriots are the only ones to blame. New England made stupid errors. The Patriots had no answers for Justin Jefferson. They STILL can’t finish in the red zone. Clock management stunk.

Oh, and CAN WE PLEASE GET RID OF NELSON AGHOLOR. I don’t care that he had a few catches and a touchdown, that 4th down deep ball went right through his hands. That play is the definition of Agholor’s career. Get him the hell out of town.

The Patriots really let prime time Kirk Cousins beat them. He even had his typical prime time performance, he wasn’t all that great. Yet New England couldn’t stop him. What a damn shame.

The Patriots offense was actually exciting for once. Mac Jones actually looked like a good, franchise QB for once. The Patriots should have won this game no questions asked. They blew it, and in a absolutely stomach churning fashion.

That’s all I have for tonight. I’ll go deeper into my thoughts in the coming days, but wow am I going to be dissapointed. Seeing Mac Jones slam his helmet after the game pretty much mirrored my feelings. What a dissapointing ending to an incredible holiday. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
