Look, I know this is a great day for Patriots fans. Cam Newton carried the team to a Week 1 win over the Miami Dolphins at home and Tom Brady didn’t look exceptionally great in his Tampa Bay Buccaneers debut in their loss to the Saints.
But this is a case of “Overreaction Monday” where fans make way too much out of one game. Don’t worry, I do it too.
Brady is still the most accomplished quarterback in NFL history with six Super Bowl rings so we have to respect that. Also, consider the circumstances between Cam and Brady.
Cam Newton has the greatest coach of all-time as his head coach in Bill Belichick and he got to play at home while Brady’s Tampa Bay debut was on the road vs the all-time leader in touchdowns, Drew Brees. I think we can both agree Brady was playing a team that will be going for a Super Bowl while Newton was playing a team that will be giving the reigns to another quarterback in a couple of months.
So while it might look good for Patriots fans to see Tom Brady at the bottom of the standings in his new uniform, he is surrounded by the best supporting cast he has ever had in his storied career.
There are 15 games left for both the Patriots and the Buccaneers, so time will tell if Brady lives to regret leaving Belichick for Florida.

I am a 50+ year New England fan and I don’t hold any ill will towards Brady. Would actually be great to see a Pats – Bucs Super Bowl. If the Pats don’t make it to the Super Bowl, I will be cheering for the Bucs all the way. The GOAT deserves our support after quarterbacking us to six championship titles.
