Mac Attack in New England

If you’re from Boston or have seen Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives starring Guy Fieri, then you may have heard of the Mac Attack Burger from Boston Burger Company. Food aside, Patriots fans will be hoping for a different kind of Mac Attack on the playing field this upcoming season as rookie Mac Jones has taken over the starting QB position for the team.

After a crazy turn of events on Tuesday morning, Cam Newton was cut from the team. This immediately puts first-round draft pick Mac Jones into a Day 1 starting position in Foxborough.

Jones finished the preseason 36-of-52 for 389 yards, with one touchdown and no interceptions. He played a total of 107 snaps.

At a previous time Bill Belichick had talked about how he looks for consistency and production over a time period when he evaluates quarterbacks. This would include practices, games, and other team activities. With that being the case, Newton’s absence due to his mistake of not following COVID-19 protocols definitely gave Jones time to shine even more than he already had. Jones was able to stand out and show the consistency and production that Belichick wanted to see. He ran the Patriots offense like a traditional Patriots offense should be run and showed that he can do it well while Newton was missing from the picture.

As the Patriots head into the regular season with a game against the Miami Dolphins, it will be time to see what Mac Jones and the team can do when the games really matter.
