Jets to Sign Chris Hogan

NFL journeyman Chris Hogan will sign with the New York Jets, according to reports.

Hogan, 32, most recently had a one-year stint with the Carolina Panthers following three seasons and two Super Bowl wins with the New England Patriots. He has also played for the other two AFC East teams, the Miami Dolphins (2011-2012; did not play) and Buffalo Bills (2012-2015).

“He’s a guy who can come in and pick up the offense very quickly,” head coach Adam Gase said. “Obviously, we competed against him quite a bit. He’s a good fit for us.”

During his time in the NFL, Hogan has amassed 202 receptions, 2,677 yards, and 18 touchdowns.

The move comes following injuries to several Jets wide receivers. Denzel Mims, a rookie out of Baylor, missed the first two days of training camp due to a hamstring injury. Mims is expected to miss a few days.

Vyncint Smith, who the Jets signed off the practice squad from the Houston Texans in September 2019, sat out of Sunday’s practice with a core injury. Smith will see a specialist and undergo further testing.

The Jets were running thin at the wide receiver position after losing top receiver Robby Anderson in free agency, releasing Quincy Enunwa, and not re-signing Demaryius Thomas.

“People might not know who they are right now,” Gase said of his receivers. “But we had some good, young players last year that developed and they’re giving themselves a shot to contribute with us this year.”
