Ja’Whaun Bentley, Patriots Agree On 2 Year – $18.75M Extension.

Yesterday, New England receiver DeVante Parker got extended. Today, it’s Bentley’s turn. It has been a very busy couple of days over at Gillette Stadium.

Ja’Whaun Bentley and the Patriots have agreed on a new contract extension that is for 2 years, $18.75M, which includes $9M fully guaranteed.

Oh baby, do I love this. Bentley, who was named a Patriots captain last year, has become one of the best linebackers in football. He’s become a staple of this Belichick defense, so it’s good to see him locked up for a few more years.

Bentley is coming off his best year as a pro, which saw him get to the QB a lot more often than in the past. He had a career high three sacks to go along with a career best six QB hits. Not to mention, he also posted a career best number for total tackles with 125.

With Parker’s deal yesterday clearing up $3.7M in cap space, I’m beginning to wonder if this Bentley deal also cleared up some cap space? I wonder why they could be doing this? Lets all hope its for the same reason we are all thinking about.
