Patriots Coach Bill Belichick is Sending a Message to One Person Only…

Adam Schefter surprised everyone when he tweeted out Sunday night that the New England Patriots would be signing Cam Newton to a 1-year deal. We all thought that Bill Belichick was going to go with Jarrett Stidham as the Patriots quarterback for the 2020 season, but that now appears to be very much in doubt.

Tank for Trevor anyone? Not anymore.

Belichick is sending a message to one person and one person only: Tom Brady.

Brady, of course, won six championships with Belichick over his tenure in Foxborough, but when he decided to leave Patriots fans for Tampa Bay, it was for one primary reason: to show the world that he doesn’t need Bill to win.

Did we really think that Belichick was going to be content going 7-9 (or worse maybe) in 2020 after two decades of contending? Of course he wasn’t.

He waited until there wasn’t much going on in the football world to stun everyone and take a chance on a former MVP in Cam Newton. But why?

To send this message to Tom Brady: I don’t need you either.

The combination of Bill Belichick and Cam Newton gives the New England Patriots about the same opportunity to get through their conference that Brady gives the Buccaneers.

The only question to ask now is who will make it farther this year: Brady with Arians or Belichick with Cam? Only time will tell.
