Patrice Bergeron Wins Game 1 in the 2nd OT for the Bruins

The Boston Bruins could not capitalize on a few opportunities and looked a little sluggish in the early parts of Game 1 in the first round vs the Carolina Hurricanes, but they ended it quickly once the second overtime began.

As I detailed before the series got underway, we knew that the “Profession Line” was going to need to step it up once the games started to count and they did…eventually.

David Pastrnak made a great backhand pass to Patrice Bergeron on the right side of the ice very early in the second overtime to give the Boston Bruins the Game 1 win.

But it didn’t start out so smooth for the big three, as they weren’t really creating a whole lot of shots on goal in the first three periods.

Boston Globe reporter Kevin Paul Dupont tweeted out a stat that was really surprising. Bergeron, Pastrnak, and Marchand combined for just 3 shots on goal in 8 attempts in the first three periods of hockey.

You don’t need me to tell you that you aren’t going to win many games in the Stanley Cup Playoffs when the front line isn’t creating goal-scoring opportunities.

But the Bruins pulled out a Game 1 first-round win and now will have to recover for the second half of back-to-back games to start the season. Game 2 is tomorrow at 8 ET.
