Martín Pérez Sends Cryptic Message on Twitter

Speculation swept over Red Sox fans last night as pitcher Martín Pérez sent out a mysterious tweet.

Boston has not informed Pérez about a final decision related to his 2021 option. The team will need to make a decision no later than three days following the conclusion of the World Series.

The Red Sox signed Pérez last December to a one-year contract with a club option for 2021. The deal is for $6 million and the option for next season is for $6.25 million.

Pérez had been a bright spot for the team last season. The left-hander went 3-5 in 12 starts, 62 innings with a 4.50 ERA. With Chris Sale, Eduardo Rodriguez and Nate Eovaldi all missing from the rotation, it’s safe to say that Pérez was the best starter the team had.

Since rookie Tanner Houck recently cemented his place in the 2021 rotation and Nick Pivetta is expected to follow, Pérez may no longer have a place in Boston.

“I want to be back next season,” Pérez said. “I feel at home here.”
