New York Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu has been selected as a 2022 All-Star starter for the first time in her young career.
The first overall pick in the 2020 WNBA Draft out of Oregon, Ionescu, 24, is averaging 16.7 points per game, 6.4 rebounds per game, and 6.1 assists per game in an average of 32.2 minutes per game.
The floor general for the Liberty spent the end of her rookie season sidelined with a grade-three left ankle sprain. The following season, she became the youngest player in league history to record a triple double and the first player in Liberty history to achieve such a feat.
Ionescu joins Breanna Stewart (co-captain), A’ja Wilson (co-captain), Sue Bird (co-captain), Sylvia Fowles (co-captain), Candace Parker, Kelsey Plum, Jackie Young, Nneka Ogwumike, and Jonquel Jones as starters for the event.
The 2022 WNBA All-Star Game will be played on July 10 in Chicago, home of the 2021 WNBA Champion Chicago Sky.
