A Breakdown of Dustin Pedroia’s Hilarious Tell-All Interview

Dustin Pedroia sat down with the guys on the Section 10 podcast the week of his retirement to talk about his career and he had a lot of things to say. Here are some of the notable quotes from the interview.

On the possibility of getting his number retired

“I did all I could. If they [ownership] decide to do that, that would be the greatest honor I could have…that’s their decision and I’ll leave it at that,” Pedroia said.

Does he leave his career wishing he won something that he didn’t win?

Pedroia replied, “There wasn’t an award that I didn’t win.” Jared Carrabis pointed out he didn’t win a platinum glove. Pedroia’s response: “That’s bull—…I have a lot of ammo if someone tries to talk s–.” He isn’t lying there. Pedroia finished his career as a .299 hitter with a Rookie of the Year, an MVP, four gold gloves, a Silver Slugger, and two World Series titles (not counting 2018).

On who he’d have catch his first pitch on Pedey Day

“I’d like to pick Tito [Francona] but he can’t bend over to catch the damn thing.” Pedey is definitely a comedian!

On when he tore his UCL in his thumb in 2013

“I did it Opening Day…my last at-bat. I was running down the line and for some reason, it was raining out of nowhere..and I slipped a little bit so I just dove for the base and my thumb just blew out.” Pedroia ended up playing the entire season as well as the postseason en route to the World Series championship versus St. Louis.

On Brock Holt’s ALDS Cycle

He told Holt to “take this guy bridge and we’ll call it a day…[Holt] was pointing at me [rounding the bases] and I was going nuts…You’re about to hit for the cycle at Yankee Stadium and turn this place into a f—ing library…You’ll be asking for library cards the next time you come into this place…you could hear a pin drop in that place.”

Holt definitely made Yankee Stadium into the quietest library in the world that night, finishing with a cycle in the Red Sox’s 16-1 rout of the Yankees in Game 3 of the ALDS.
